Mitigation

Mitigation - to ensure our emissions remain at a level that will prevent the worst aspects of climate change happening.

The benefits of mitigation are:

-  better health from reduced air pollution;
-  energy security;
-  improved trade balance;
-  provision of modern energy services to rural areas;
-  sustainable agriculture and employment.

Changes in lifestyle and behaviour patterns can contribute to climate change mitigation. These changes can be consumer choices (in buildings), cultural patterns, and reduction of car usage in combination with urban planning and availability of public transport. Energy efficient concepts and renewable energy sources deserve priority as alternatives to fossil fuels. At the same time there is a need for measures to combat desiccation, erosion, high water levels and damage to property.
