Royal Cradle consists of 50 professionals from inside and outside Royal Haskoning, in the areas of environment, infrastructure, buildings and installations, urban surroundings, energy, waste, water and soil. Over a period of six months, Dr Michael Braungart and Prof. Peter Luscuere (Royal Haskoning) will provide them with intensive training in 'Cradle to Cradle thinking' so that they can then realise this in projects in their own specialist areas.
The professionals will address six different topics in multidisciplinary teams. The topics are:
- Renovating existing buildings and inner-city redevelopment
- Adaptive construction in relation to climate change and education
- Cradle to Cradle industrial sites
- Developing Cradle to Cradle policy for municipalities
- Cradle to Cradle and supply chain efficiency
- Use of materials in the infrastructure
There will also be a definite focus on system integration – the link between the process and the solutions. Specific projects will be used as case studies.
The role of Mr Braungart and his colleagues Douglas Mulhall and Katja Hansen during this training session is to inspire and reflect. This goes beyond the basic training in Cradle to Cradle. The professionals' skills, knowledge and creativity will be intensified. This increases the added value of our advice.
Royal Haskoning is embracing the Cradle to Cradle philosophy. The Rotterdam Sustainability Initiative (RSI) Foundation was established on the initiative of Royal Haskoning. The Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment, the Government Buildings Agency, the Royal BAM Group, OVG, Desso, TenneT, the municipality of Rotterdam (RCI), Cisco and Royal Haskoning are participating in this. The foundation has raised money for a chair at the Erasmus University for Braungart: ‘Cradle to Cradle in relation to sustainable system innovations and transitions in theory and practice’.
