Best practice in response to pluvial flooding

Clientname: Meteorological Office
Year: 2008
Clienttype: Local authorities
Location: United Kingdom

Royal Haskoning has developed a best practice in response to pluvial flooding. This was achieved by innovatively using a GIS interface combined with advanced radar interpretation and resolution.

In association with the Meteorological Office, Royal Haskoning investigated a method to redress the lack of arrangements to manage pluvial flooding partly caused by climate change. The aim of the project was to provide a means by which local authorities could reduce the impact of pluvial flood events. Using several outputs, Royal Haskoning created a generic best practice in response to pluvial flooding to give local authorities the tools to make informed decisions about mitigating actions. In essence the best practice is an adaptation method, but it could also be used as a mitigation tool.
