On behalf of the Environment Agency, Royal Haskoning studied the climate change impact on the River Wear catchment area by the year 2050. The impact of climate change on buildings, infrastructure and vulnerable members of society was also identified. Several possible adaptation measures were devised to counter the impact of climate change on the Wear catchment. Recommendations about adaptation and future practice moreover led to an ongoing project which is looking at wider impacts across the whole of the region.
